World War II Special Collection of American Defenders of Bataan and Corregidor
The American Defenders of Bataan and Corregidor (ADBC) chose the Brooke County Public Library to be their official depository. The museum houses books, documents, and artifacts of this special group that defended their country as America entered World War II. Without adequate resources, they were forced into camps, and then sent to Japan and other Southeast locations on "Hellships," being bombed by their own country who did not know they were on the Japanese ships. The library contains many oral histories of these men's stories. The library is in the process of digitizing documents related to this topic. A project to expand the museum is underway.
